And now, a message from our friends from the Physics Society (or PhySoc)! This Wednesday (1st May) at 1pm in Lecture Theatre 5 in the Physics Building, Ray Norris speaks to us about what is potentially the world’s first astronomers. Aboriginal people in Australia have a rich astronomical tradition such as the “emu in the sky” constellation of dark clouds, and stories about the Sun, Moon, and Orion, revealing a depth and complexity of Aboriginal cultures which are not widely appreciated by outsiders. This talk will explore the wonderful mystical Aboriginal astronomical stories and traditions and the treasury of ancient Aboriginal knowledge. As always, this is a free event, with great discussions. Also, there will be cake.
